The Vanderkloof Dam is the second-largest dam in South Africa with a surface area  of 133 000 square kilometres and also boasting with the highest dam wall in the country at 108 metres and a length of 756 m. The power station is operated by Eskom with two turbines with a capacity of 240 MW, generating 932 GWh annually. Construction of the dam began in 1973 and it was opened in 1977. The dam is fed by the Orange River of which we had the privilage of camping next to last night.
